EcoPerks wants to hear from you!

Our site promotes vibrant, positive voices of people who are passionate about the planet. This is a place to share your visions, experiences and the habits you practice that are good to the Earth. If you are itching to tell your story, send it our way and let us consider it for publication.

Here’s the nitty gritty:

  • Send us your EcoEssay- you can write it out (450-600 words) or send it as a video (1-4 minutes). Be personal, be informative, be creative!
  • All EcoEssays – written or video – must be accompanied by three additional items:
    • your bio
    • your headshot – digital snapshot is fine and
    • a digital still image – your “action shot.”
  • We ask that EcoPerks be your EcoEssay’s debut, so please don’t send us something you’ve previously published. Once it has been posted on our site, you are welcome to post it elsewhere, providing you include a note indicating that it originated here (“as first posted on www.EcoPerks.com”).
  • When appropriate, include compelling facts and figures, but please be diligent about citing your sources.
  • We love a good story but only if it’s yours. Remember that plagiarism is a crime.
  • We review all material and make necessary changes in punctuation and grammar and on occasion, we edit for content.
  • You retain the rights to your story and photographs and we retain the right to keep them on our site, as we have edited them, for as long as we want.

Your slice of the pie:

  • Compensation For every accepted EcoEssay you will receive 2000 points, which you can redeem on our site for all sorts of exciting products, services and experiences
  • Exposure EcoPerks will give voice to your story and share it with thousands of people every month. In addition, at your request, we will provide a link from your EcoEssay to your personal site.
  • Credentials As an EcoPerks contributor, you will have a permanent listing on our Community page and something snazzy to add to your resume.

As you create, keep in mind:

  • We are looking for approachable voices that will speak with warmth and humor to a range of people concerned with the environment. We are looking to embrace, inspire, educate and offer vision to the members and potential members of EcoPerks. Make it fun, make it lively, make it real.

Your Name
We want to get it right – please give it to us the way you want to see it next to your piece.

Your email
For purposes of correspondence about your piece, please provide an email address that you check regularly. No worries about us sharing it, though – we won’t. Period.

Your EcoEssay Title
We love short and catchy, so have at it. But in this digital world of search engines, we might need to fiddle with it to maximize your hits. We’ll work with it in the editing process to make sure the most people possible can find your stuff.

Bio, Headshot, Action Shot
All EcoEssays – written or video – must be accompanied by three additional items:

  1. your bio (view our current articles for ideas!)
  2. your headshot – digital snapshot is fine and
  3. a digital still image – your “action shot.”

The EcoEssay
We are looking for personal essays – both video and written - that have an environmental focus, illustrated with details from your life. If people see how you’ve changed a habit, or taken on a project, they may be inspired to do it themselves. That’s what it’s all about.

Polish, Polish, Polish
Some suggestions to produce a finished piece of writing:

  • Write primarily from and about your own life experience. But if you include detailed factual information, be sure to check your facts and cite your sources. Accuracy is a must, and if you did some research, we’re going to want to know where you got your scoop.
  • Cross your “t”s and dot your “i”s. Check your spelling and grammar: word-processing programs like Microsoft Word are helpful with catching those oh so human errors. We’re looking for clean submissions, so please use the tools available to you.
  • Your English teacher was right – the best way to gage the flow and logic of your writing is to read it aloud. If it doesn’t sound right, it won’t read right either. Even better, find a friend who will listen to you read your piece.

We look forward to reading or viewing your piece! Thank you for being part of EcoPerks.
The Editors
